VARSITY   22-5-0

November 15, 2008.  The  Northmen ended this season with an incredible record of 22-5-0 when they lost to the Rockhurst Hawklets this afternoon on a cold and windy field.  The first half ended scoreless but shortly into the second half on a play set up by a restart; the Hawklets headed the ball in over the top and hit pay dirt.  While our  Northmen played a great game; we just could not find the goal.  After Rockhurst scored they dropped eight back to surround the goal and to ward off attempts and there were some serious attempts made by our boys.

When Spencer Brinkmeyer, senior defender, made a valiant effort to take the ball into the net during the last two minutes of the game with his long legs stretched to the hilt, the crowd was on their feet poised, cheering and ready for the goal but we could just not make it happen.

Hold your heads high boys; you did well and are very fine young men.  Stay that way.  It has been such a pleasure watching you grow and mature.

The 2008 Northmen Soccer Team had an awesome year.  They were a force to be reckoned with and they  allowed only eight goals all season.  Four of the five losses ended with only one goal against them as well.  Nobody scored well against Oak Park. The back five was fearless in their attempts to avoid goals and the mid-fielders, forwards and every boy on the team played in an exemplary manner with most goals made by our forwards but some came from several other starters and reserve players.    Hats off to the fine team members and to the coaches of the Oak Park High School 2008 Soccer Team.

21 shut outs in one season.  A record very few teams  nationally and I suspect internationally; can boast about.  Hooray for our team.

Do not forget the soccer banquet on Monday evening.

November 11, 2008.   This is the second game in a row where OPHS Northmen broke the school record for shut outs in one year. On this dreary Tuesday evening OP easily downed the Liberty Blue Jays 3-0 on the home field; winning the sectional game and qualifying to play in the Quarter Final game on Saturday against the Rockhurst Hawklets at DAC at 1:00.

About 19 minutes into the first quarter Patrick Brennan scored the first goal and at half time the score was 1-0.  Ten minutes into the second half Kevin Ellis scored and with only 3 minutes and 58 seconds left in the game Anthony Dorrel scored the final goal.  The shut out this evening was recorded by Louis Misner.  Great work men.

See you on Saturday afternoon.  Boys, be tough; be focused and do your best.  We are proud of you and all of your fans are pulling for you.

November 6, 2008.  Tonight's was a windy and cold but thrilling game as our OP Northmen won the District Championship with a score of 2-0.  The shutout was recorded by Lou Misner.  The Northmen took the field and took the game right out of the hands of the opponent; Park Hill South.  Oak Park dominated the game offensively and defensively.

Kevin Ellis was the first to score with about 17 minutes left to play in the first half; the team left the field at half time with a score of 1-0.  Patrick Brennan's blast into the goal about 5 minutes into the second half brought us to the ending score of 2-0.

Tonight the 2008 Northmen not only won the District Championship but they also broke a school record of shut outs in one season with a new total of 20.  Congratulations and keep it up.  Oak Park will play Liberty in the Sectionals; date and time to be provided later.  Be there and bring your friends to cheer on the OPHS Soccer team.  Hang in there boys, keep your heads and play your game.  The season is not over yet.  Congratulations to the coaching staff...........Great job.

November 4, 2008.  The Oak Park Northmen trounced the NKC Hornets for yet another shut out for the second round of the District playoffs at DAC tonight where top seeded OPHS was the home team.  The score was 1-0 and the shut out was recorded by Lou Misner.  The regular play was over with a score of 0-0 even though OPHS had many more shots on goal than the opponents. About half way through the first 15 minute overtime, Kevin Ellis passed to Spencer Brinkmeyer while just outside of the opponents goal.  Spencer drove the ball past several Hornet players and the opposing GK and into the net it went.

This was a finger biting, cliff hanging type of game but both teams played well with the ever-strong Northmen defensive team prevailing and keeping the Hornets to just a few shots on goal; some of which were a bit questionable.  Good work men and we will be there to see you in the District championship game Thursday evening.  Parents and fans bring your coats and umbrellas just in case; but be there.  The Northmen need you and it's going to be a great game.   Keep up the focus men and keep a cool head.  You are closer to your goal but still have a way to go.

October 29, 2008.  The Oak Park Varsity came though tonight with a score of 5-0.  Lou Misner was in goal and recorded the shut out.  Tonight Patrick Brennan led the scoring with a hat trick (3 goals) and Cam Niederhauser scored twice.  The goals were very decisive as they found their mark and hit the net hard.  An assist was made by James Schneider.

Great work and what a way to end the regular season play with the CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP.  Districts start next week and good luck to each and every one of you.  Oak Park does not have a game on Saturday but plays the first District game on Tuesday night at 5:00.  Be there (at DAC) to root for these outstanding young men who outscored their opponents in regular season play by 77 to 7.  Terrific Work Men and stay focused; your work is not done.

October 27, 2008.  The Varsity Northmen did it again.  With Mercy Rule in play the boys took the game 10-0 and shut out and shut down William Chrisman with over eight minutes remaining in the standard game time.  Scoring was led by Cam Niederhauser and Lou Misner with two goals each.  Drew Mreen, Nate Olson, Tim Beach, Moe Ahmed and Troy Lewis each had one goal and Patrick Brennan scored on a PK.  Assists were led by Patrick Brennan and James Schneider each with two, Lou Misner, Drew Mreen and Spencer Brinkmeyer each had one.

The shut out was credited to Senior GK's Lou Misner and Spencer Brinkmeyer.  Looking forward to the PHSouth game on Wednesday for the final game of 2008 regular season play.  See you there.

October 25, 2008.  Oak Park Varsity shut out Park Hill South 3-0 (shut out credited to Lou Misner and Spencer Brinkmeyer) on Oak Park's home field this afternoon.  Cam Niederhauser had two goals today and Moe Ahmed had one.  Assists were made by James Schneider and Spencer Brinkmeyer.  We had many other good shots on goal which just did not seem to want to go into the the box.  Good work men and see you on Monday.

October 20, 2008.  The OPHS Varsity team played a great game against Winnetonka Varsity and came away with another shut out and a score of 3-0 (Shut out recorded by Lou Misner, GK).  The first goal was scored by Kevin Ellis, followed by a second Ellis score from a PK shot after a handball in the box.  The final score was made when Scott Eastman fired the ball into the goal to finish the game.  This was another good game with most of the action on the right end of the field during both halves.  Great job Guys, see you on Wednesday night at Ray-Pec.  Bring a coat and an umbrella.

Note that tonight's game with Ray-Pec will be rescheduled.

October 15, 2008.  Senior night against Liberty Blue Jays resulted in another shut out (2-0-recorded by Lou Misner) on the OPHS Home field.  About eight minutes into the game Senior Forward James Schneider scored the first goal with the other to follow in the second half when Senior Forward Cam Niederhauser scored on a PK.

We had many scoring chances and many shots on goal but were unable to convert them during the cold and windy evening.   See you at the next game on Monday night when we meet up with Winnetonka at DAC.

October 13, 2008.  The Northmen hit the field running tonight with another shutout against the Park Hill Trojans (3-0 shut out recorded by Lou Misner who also recorded 12 saves tonight) on the away field.  With this win Oak Park takes first place in the conference and are going strong.  Don't let down the momentum, men.  On this rainy night Cam Niederhauser scored twice and Peter Nechvatal scored once as Josh Brush led with two assists and Spencer Brinkmeyer had one.  Sorry Trojans; but you did not stand a chance tonight as the Oak Park Northmen Varsity made up for last meet which ended as a 1-0 loss on their own home field.  To Date this season OP Varsity has 54 goals to out-score the opponents who have a collective 7.

October 8, 2008.  Well it wasn't a very pretty game tonight but our Northmen shut out the Truman Patriots 2-0 on the home field.  Cam Niederhauser scored the first goal and Pete Nechvatal scored the second.  The shut out was recorded by Lou Misner.

October 2, 2008.  Tonight the Varsity played a terrific game against Lee's Summit North.  They took over the game and shut down the Broncos 2-0 (shut out credited to Lou Misner).  The first goal was scored by Cam Niederhauser on an assist by James Schneider and it was a terrific shot.  The second goal came when about half way thru the second half Scott Eastman took advantage of the GK being out of position as he looped one squarely into the top of the goal.  It was a well played game all around and the Northmen dominated the field throughout.  Good work men.  Terrific game.

October 1, 2008.  Tonight the OP Northmen defeated the William Chrisman Bears in yet another shut out; score 7-0.  Lou Misner  recorded the shut out.  Dylan Drambour, Freshman Mid, scored a hat trick (3 goals) and Senior forward Cam Niederhauser racked up two goals; the first and last of the game.  Sr. Forwards Jordan Lowe and James Schneider each scored singles.  James Schneider recorded two assists and Josh Brush, Moe Ahmed and Dylan Drambour each had one assist for the game.  As with the JV game tonight; the Bears could not seem to measure up.

Let's be ready for Thursday's game.  It looks like a tough one and we will need to be on our toes.

September 29, 2008.  Tonight the Oak Park Varsity defeated the Raytown Blue Jays in a shut out at 1-0.  James Schneider scored 13 minutes into the second half and that was it for the evening.  Oak Park had many opportunities to score but again the goal proved elusive all but one time in the game but that is all it took to rack up another shut out, recorded by Sr. GK Lou Misner.  This was the 9th shut out of the season with total goals now sitting at 7 for the opponents and 40 for OP Varsity.

September 25, 2008.  Oak Park Varsity played well last night on the field but could not get the ball in the net as the Rockhurst Hawklets went home with the win this time on a score of 2-0.  It was a fairly rough game with time out for injuries in the second half.  Northmen Sr GK Lou Misner tried to walk off the hard hit to the thigh he took during a foul while he had a save in goal.  Lou immediately re-entered the game but the Hawklet involved was carted off the field and was unable to return.  We hope both boys are OK and ready for action.

Next game is Monday with a home game against Raytown.  See you there.

September 24, 2008.  Thirty seconds into tonight's game Cam Niederhauser scored on an assist from James Schneider but that is where the scoring for the evening ended for both teams (1-0 score).  As Oak Park racked up a shut out in the game against the Winnetonka Griffins; we look forward to a tough game tomorrow night with the Rockhurst Hawklets on their field.  Shut out recorded by Lou Misner.

Please notice that game time for Thursday's varsity game is 7:15. See you there.

September 22, 2008.  It was a tough game for both our Oak Park Northmen tonight and for our old rivals, NKCHS Hornets, but the Northmen prevailed and captured another shut out; recorded by Lou Misner in goal.  The final score was 2-0.  The first half went scoreless but 17 minutes into the second half Kevin Ellis scored and with just seven minutes remaining in the game, Patrick Brennan scored on an assist from Midfielder, Moe Ahmed.  Congratulations Northmen on a terrific all-around game.

We meet Winnetonka on our home field Wednesday,  the 24th and Rockhurst at Rockhurst on Thursday the 25th; both games are at 6:30.  The season is almost half over but there is still a lot of excellent soccer to take place.  Be sure to be there to root for your OP Northmen.

Good luck and you are doing a great job men.

September 17, 2008.  Oak Park Northmen lost this evening to the Park Hill Trojans 1-0.  It was a well-fought game and Oak Park had several quality shots on goal but we could not just not seem to hit pay dirt.  The defensive game was played well by both teams and we look forward to another game with PHHS on 10-13.  Our next game is a home game with NKC Hornets.  See you on the field on the 22nd.  Good luck men.

September 15, 2008.  The Oak Park Varsity defeated Truman tonight 6-0.  It was the seventh win out of nine games for the Northmen Soccer Team.  Another shut out on the heels of taking the championship of the Francis Howell tournament this weekend.  It's been a busy first few weeks of school for the Northmen with almost a third of the season already behind them.  The Northmen Defensive team kept Truman to only one shot on goal for the entire game.  The Northmen will meet up with the Park Hill Trojans Wednesday night on the home field at 6:30 immediately following the JV game .

Senior forward, Cam Niederhauser started off the game with two goals, Senior forward, Kevin Ellis had two with one by James Schneider, Senior Mid and then Senior Defensive Player, Josh Brush, followed with the final goal of the game.  Senior Forward, Patrick Brennan is credited with two assists and Louis Misner Sr. GK gets credit for the Shut Out.  Nice win, men.

See you Wednesday night. Good luck.

September 12 and 13, 2008.  The Oak Park Northmen took the Francis Howell tournament in St Louis with two shut outs (Lou Misner-GK shut outs in second and third games) and scores of 4-2, 2-0 and 4-0.  This is the second year that our OPHS Northmen have won the tournament.  In the first game against Francis Howell Central, defensive players Spencer Brinkmeyer scored twice with Peter Nechvatal and Josh Brush scoring once each.  During the second game Northmen Kevin Ellis and Peter Nechvatal (Defense) made the goals and in the final game on Sunday, Kevin Ellis scored twice while Patrick Brennan and Cam Niederhauser made single goals.

We played a good offensive and defensive tournament.  Great job men.  See you at the Monday night game against Truman HS at William Chrisman.

September 11, 2008.  As the first game played the new District Athletic Complex by our Oak Park High School Northmen, the varsity shut out the St Joe Central Indians by a score of 11-0.  Mercy rule ended the game at the end of the first half with no shots on goal for the opponents.  James Schneider scored in the first minute of the game, assisted by Patrick Brennan.  James went on to score another goal, Kevin Ellis ended with a hat trick, Anthony Dorrel, mid-fielder, scored once, Cam Niederhauser made two goals, Patrick Brennan one and Defensive player, Josh Brush scored twice.  Other assists were made by James Schneider, Moe Ahmed, Spencer Brinkmeyer and Peter Nechvatal.

Good luck in St Louis this weekend.

September 9, 2008.  By halftime of the OPHS VS Lee's Summit HS soccer game tonight we had a scoreless tie.  But the Northmen took the field after half time with determination and spirit as they took the win 4-0.  Four minutes into the second half Patrick Brennan scored on a pass from Kevin Ellis and from then on; the game was theirs.  Patrick went on to score the final two goals of the hat trick with one more assist from Kevin Ellis and Joe Webb took the score to four as he scored later in the half.  Stats are pending verification by the coaches and Lou Misner gets credit for the shut out with an unconfirmed 10 saves.  See you this weekend in St Louis at the Francis Howell Tournament.

September 6, 2008.  Oak Park took fourth in the Olathe Tournament this over-cast Saturday morning as the score was 0-0 at half-time with SMNW scoring early in the second half (score 1-0).  Again the teams seemed well-matched and it was a defensive battle.  After scoring SMNW generally played 8 back and managed to hang onto their lead with several close goal attempts throughout the second half by our Northmen.  Next game Tuesday.  You can do it men.

September 4, 2008.  Oak Park was defeated in the second game of the Olathe Tournament by Olathe South 1-0.  It was a well-matched and a well-fought defensive game by both teams.  Olathe South's goal came about half way through the first quarter.  Oak Park will play for third place on Saturday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m.  Good luck Northmen.

September 2, 2008.  The Oak Park Northmen had a rousing start to the season when they swept past Blue Valley North, shutting them down (5-0) in the first game of the Olathe Tournament.  The Northmen took the field and took charge of the game.  Lou Misner is credited with the shut out as five separate teammates scored with assists from four teammates.  The Northmen opened the season working together as a team tonight.  Keep up the good work.

JR. VARSITY   11-4-2

October 29, 2008.  The Op Northmen JV's ended the season this year with a tie with Park Hill South (2-2).  It was a hard played game with a lot of shots on goal but we just could not pull another goal out of the hat.

Tonight's goals were scored by Armando Moreno (?) and Sam Lopez with an assist from Joel Garay.  Good work men.  Great season with final tallies of 11 wins 4 losses and two ties.  We outscored our opponents by 70 to 15 and had ten shut outs.  This was a season to be proud of and your fans have enjoyed every minute of it.  Good luck to you in the 2009 Season.

October 25, 2008.  This afternoon the OPHS JV team was defeated by the Park Hill South JV's by a score of 0-1.  It was a hard played game and there were several good shots on goal which did not seem to hit the mark.

Please note that the Ray-Pec game for tonight will be rescheduled. 10-22-08.

October 15, 2008.  The OPJV went to work on the Bluejays of Liberty Wednesday night and came out victorious.  The win pushes the Northmen's record to 9-3-1.  From the beginning, the Northmen won the coin toss, yet decided to take the kickoff, instead of the wind; it must have been confidence in their team, because the benefit of the wind ended at halftime.  It was a great, even game throughout though.  The game was tied at half time at zeros, while the Northmen were playing against a stiff wind.  The wind stopped at halftime, yet the Northmen pushed further.  Junior Arturo Pino assisted freshman Dylan Drambour for the only goal of the game.  It was a great effort by the whole OPJV, especially the defense and the keeper recording the shutout, Mitch Creagh.

The next game is Monday at DAC, come out and support both our JV and Varsity, they are two very good teams.

October 13, 2008.  The OPJV rolled on the Trojans of Park Hill last night by the score of 3-1.  The Trojans scored the first goal of the game on a nice cross and uncontested finish on the back side, but that did not stop the Northmen.  We were not going to back down.  The OPJV came back with three unanswered goals while playing a great physical game and taking it to the other team in the second half.  It was the Old School Park Hill vs Oak Park rivalry that used to be and will soon become.  Two goals were scored by freshman Derek Harvey, while sophomore Joel Garay added a penalty kick to make it three.  Assists to the goals were by sophomore Samuel Lopez and Junior Arturo Pino.  It was a great defensive effort led by goal keeper Mitch Craig.  Great job gentlemen.

Come out and support the Northmen on Wednesday at home, DAC, when they play their game against Liberty, senior night.  Games will begin at 5 o’clock, with the varsity following at 6:30.

October 8, 2008.  The JV team shut out the Truman Patriots 6-0 on the home field.  Two goals were made by Arturo Pino, One by Derek Harvey, Sam Lopez, Rajko Radovic and Joel Garay.   Arturo Pino led with two assists, with one each for Joel Garay, Derek Harvey and Kyle Zeigler.  The shut out was recorded by Mitchell Creagh.

September 29, October 1 and 2, 2008.

The Junior Varsity Northmen soccer ended a good week this week with three great games.

On Monday, the JV played the Blue Jays of Raytown and won by a shut out.  Goals were scored by Arturo Pino, Ricoh Radovic, and Joel Garay, while assists were recorded to Radovic, Pino and Sam Lopez.

Wednesday, the Northmen obliterated the Bears of William Chrisman.  The Bears wanted nothing to do with Oak Park, while the Northmen went on to win 10-0, ending the game shortly into the second half by mercy rule.  Two goals and two assists were recorded to Dylan Drambour, giving him five goals and three assists for the evening.  Ricoh Radovic had a hat trick, three goals, Joel Garay had two of his own, while Sam Lopez, Lorenzo Pastori, and Arturo Pino had one a piece.  Sam Lopez also had three assists in this game.

On Thursday night, the JV played the Broncos of Lee’s Summit North.  It was a great game by both teams, playing the pretty game that soccer is supposed to be.  At half time, the score was tied while shortly into the second half the broncos scored taking the lead.  The Northmen did not back down a played a better second half with many more scoring opportunities  while playing stellar defense.  The Northmen’s Kyle Zeigler assisted freshman Derek Harvey on a pretty pass and finish to tie the game at one.  That was how the game ended, in a one to one tie.  It was a great game by all.

September 25, 2008.  Last night, the junior varsity was defeated by the Rockhurst Hawklets by 3-0 on their field.  Next game is Monday night against Raytown (home game). See you there.

September 24, 2008.   Last night, the Northmen shutout the Griffins of Winnetonka by a score of seven to nothing.  It was a one to zero lead at halftime, but the Northmen came out on fire in the second half scoring six goals in 13 and a half minutes.  Dylan Drambour had a hat trick, three goals, Kyle Zeigler had two of his own, and Sam Lopez and Lorenzo Pastori scored one each.  Drambour added two assists while Zeigler and Ricoh Radovic each added one.  Shutout was recorded in goal by Mitch Creagh.  The Junior Varsity soccer teams record is now 4 and 2.

September 15, 2008.  The Oak Park Junior Varsity soccer team had another good victory against the Truman Patriots last night.  The final score was a 9-0 shutout, recorded by Mitchell Craig in goal.  Kyle Zeigler had a hat trick; three goals, followed by Joel Garay and Ricoh Radovic; each with two, and Kolton Eisenberger and Dylan Drambour with one each.  Arturo Pino led the way in the assist column with four.  It was a good game overall against the overmatched Patriots and the Northmen pushed their record to 2-1 and have outscored their opponents 21-5 in three games.

Come out and see these two good teams play against the old school rivals; the Park Hill Trojans on Wednesday at DAC.  JV at 5:00 and the Varsity at 6:30.

September 11, 2008.  The OP JV soccer team posted a shutout for the first Oak Park game played at the new District Activities Complex.  The culprit, St Joe Central Indians.  The Northmen posted a 10-0 win, mercy rule and game ended shortly into the second half.  It was a well-played game while the Northmen, only playing their second game of the year, still have more to work on to progress through the season.  In this game, the Indians were no match for Oak Park; Oak Park held the Indians to zero shots in the game, while OP seemed to play well and then a little sloppy.  Coach Kester says, "We just need more experience in games to play the pretty game that soccer is, but we are getting there."

The leading scorer for the Northmen was Arturo Pino, having more than a hat trick; but four goals.  Two goals were scored by freshman Dylan Drambour, and single goals were scored by Kolton Eisenberger, Derek Harvey, Ricoh Radovic, and Lorenzo Pastori.  Northmen recording assists were two by Drambour, one each by sophomore Kyle Zeigler, Radovic, and Joel Garay, as well as freshman Derek Harvey.  All in all, it was a well played game.

Come out and support the Northmen when they play their next game at DAC on Wednesday.
